Sikkim Diaries: Visiting a Piece of Heaven Called Gurudongmar

Footloose Forever

Gurudongmar was on my bucket-list since 2011 when I planned with my friends for North Sikkim travel for the first time. Unfortunately, due to a devastating earthquake in Sikkim in the same year we had to cancel our trip. Nevertheless, visiting Lake Gurudongmar was my destiny. I finally made it after 5 long years. 🙂

Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, at approx. 17,800 feet above the sea level, the holy lake is about 3.5-hour drive from Lachen, a small village where tourist can halt for the night.

We started early, at 4am. It was a terribly bumpy ride on the rough mountain roads till the army check post after Thangu, which was our only halt during this hectic journey.

The road gets better from here, offering a smooth ride, which is a rarity in North Sikkim. 😛   😀  

As we were nearing the lake the landscapes changed…

Sempre meno lavoro…..sempre più pane duro, Ma Antonio ha deciso di cercare lavoro altrove. Mette su quattro stracci, una valiggia accantonata per tanti anni nella mansarda. via si parte alla ricerca di un nuovo lavoro , la dove si può fare una vita priva di stenti. Ma il problema sorge quando deve lasciare il suo amatissimo cane. Lungo la strada a fare autostop va bene che sia solo lui ….. altrimenti rischia di non arrivare a destinazione. Allora prende la decisione di abbandonare il cane….. anche perché pane per due non ce nè. Antonio arriva a destinazione nella grande città dove bussa di porta in porta alla ricerca di un lavoro. Passano i giorni , ma di lavoro neanche l’ombra. Un giorno ormai stanco della sua ricerca bussa ad un grande magazzino. Le aprono la porta e ivi entra. Nel contempo che dialogava col proprietario vide fuori dalla vetratta una zampa di un cane allungarsi lungo il vetro. Era il suo Fido che non si era scoragiato e lo aveva seguito. Ad un tratto, dei binbi notano il cane le aprono la porta lo fanno entrare Fido festoso ma non per i bimbi ma per aver ritrovato il suo padrone, fa si che questa festa è condivisa anche coi bimbi……. Dopo lungo dialogo che aveva sostenuto col padrone e stava per andare via eco che si fa avanti un bimbo dicendo che avrebbe voluto quel cane per giocare con lui. Il titolare si impone verso il bimbo dicendo:il cane è del signore e deve andare via con lui. Il bimbo che non si vuole arrendere esclama quasi come un’ordine…. anche il signore resta con noi. Il proprietario diede ordini per integrare Antonio nel lavoro. Per merito di Fido, Antonio si era assicurato il lavoro. Dicasi per quelle persone che molto spesso si sentono svantagiate alla presenza non solo di animali ma anche di persone che danno l’impressione di disturbo..
